BILLINGS, Mont. – A pair of Halle Labert penalty kick goals led Rocky Mountain to a 2-1 win over The College of Idaho on Monday afternoon at Herb Klindt Field.
The Yotes (4-3-1, 3-1 CCC) generated a late fury to try to even the score up to force extra time, however the Battlin' Bears (1-3, 1-3 CCC) were able to skirt away with a victory despite facing five shots in the final 10 minutes.
Earlier in the contest, C of I struck first in the 14th minute on
Maddie Smith's fourth goal of the season, which came off of a
Lily Schlake assist.
Rocky answered back in the 18th minute on Labert's first penalty kick goal, with the freshman adding another penalty kick score in the 74th minute.
All three goals for the Battlin' Bears over the course of the two games this week came on penalty kicks, with Labert scoring each of them.
C of I outshot Rocky 22-8 for the contest, including a 12-5 edge in shots on goal.
Keeper Maia Wetzel saved 11 shots for the Battlin' Bears in the win.
Brooklyn Ruwe and
Madison Glascock led the attack efforts for the Yotes with four shots each.
Lexie Hibler and
Chloe Teets both tallied three shots, with all three of Hibler's attempts coming in the final 10 minutes.
