Yotes Handle 19th Ranked Rocky in 3-1 Win

BILLINGS, Mont. – Behind three first half goals, The College of Idaho knocked off No. 19 ranked Rocky Mountain 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Herb Klindt Field.

The win over the ranked Battlin' Bears (0-3, 0-3 CCC) marks the first victory over a top-25 opponent for the Yotes (4-2-1, 3-0 CCC) since a 1-0 defeat of then No. 1 ranked Concordia on Oct. 4, 2014.

C of I didn't waste much time getting the scoring started, with Lily Schlake angling a shot just inside the post off an assist from Cheyanne Rede in the 10th minute.

In the 25th minute, Brooklyn Ruwe found the net as well thanks to assists from Chloe Teets and Madison Glascock, connecting from right in front of the goal for the tally.

Kaitlyn Ramon rounded out the high-powered first half attack with a rocket off her foot in the 43rd minute from distance to make it 3-0 heading into the break. Sydney Clements earned credit for the assist.

Shae Waters was once again effective in goal, allowing just one score for the Battlin' Bears, coming in the 50th minute on a penalty kick.

For the match, the Yotes outshot Rocky 17-10, including a 15-3 edge in shots on goal.

The 3-0 record to begin Cascade Conference play for C of I is the best start for the program in league action since the 2009 team won five straight.

The Battlin' Bears and the Yotes will face off again on Monday at noon to conclude the week.
