GREAT FALLS, Mont. – A highly successful trip to Montana ended with a Saturday sweep for The College of Idaho over Providence, with freshman
Annie Polster throwing a perfect game in the opener to highlight the day.
Behind the dominant effort from Polster (4-0), the Yotes (15-7, 6-0 CCC) topped the Argos (0-8, 0-6 CCC) 8-0 in Game 1. C of I took the second game convincingly 15-0, with both contests spanning just five innings.
There was little that the Providence bats could do against Polster, as the product of West Richland, Wash. struck out seven hitters while throwing just 57 pitches. The perfect game is the first for the C of I program since Katie Zillner accomplished the feat on Mar. 28, 2008 at home against Northwest Christian.
In support of Polster, the Yotes plated eight runs in the fourth inning, including a grand slam off the bat of
Haley Loffer.
Three players posted multi-hit games, including
Trystin Crofts,
Kaily Christensen and
Mallory Copeland.
Hannah McNerney (6-3) was outstanding in the weekend finale in the circle for C of I, picking up the win while pitching a complete game. She allowed four hits and struck out four.
Run support was no issue for McNerney, as the Yotes tallied six runs in the second, two in the third and seven in the fifth.
Following the lead of Loffer in the first game, freshman
Hannah Mikel hit a grand slam of her own in the fifth inning of Game 2 for the first home run of her collegiate career.
Mikel finished the game with two hits, three runs and five RBI.
Makenna Luke had a pair of runs batted in and
Kaylee MacDannald scored twice.
Lauren Gordon hit an RBI double in the fifth.
The Yotes have now won nine straight games, as the squad inches closer to the longest streak in school history, which is 12 set back in 2012.
C of I hosts Eastern Oregon next Friday and Saturday in Cascade Conference action. The games can all be watched live on the Yotes Digital Network.
