NEWBERG, Ore. – College of Idaho got outstanding play from the top three singles positions at George Fox, but the Bruins were able to earn an 8-1 victory inside the GFU Multi-Use Facility.
The Bruins (1-0) took all three doubles points, but C of I put a scare in the Division III squad in singles action.
Lauren Kreutzer was dominant at No. 1 singles, rolling to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Sophia Lawrence – her third win in four singles matches dating back to last season.
At No. 2,
Leiana Almaraz battled for nearly two hours against Laney Search, dropping the first set in a tiebreak and narrowly losing the second, falling 7-6, 6-4.
Freshman
Sara Altfas played inspired tennis at No. 3, but dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Taylor Morris.
C of I returns to action next weekend with matches in Pocatello against Division I programs Idaho State and Dixie State.
