LINCOLN, Calif. – Oregon Tech and William Jessup took a pair of games from The College of Idaho on Friday at the Foskett Regional Park.
The Owls (4-0) won 4-2 in the first game of the day for the Yotes (4-4), with the Warriors (4-7) shutting out C of I in a pitcher's duel to come out on top 1-0 in the second game.
In the contest against OIT, C of I trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning when
Haley Loffer singled up the middle to score
Sydney Zachry to even things up at 1-1.
Later on, in the fourth inning, the Owls utilized a Kennedy Jantzi home run and a McKenna Armantrout RBI single to take a 3-1 lead.
C of I battled back with a run in the bottom half of the fourth on a Loffer sacrifice fly to score Fortune, but that was as close as the Yotes would get, with Oregon Tech tacking on one more insurance run in the seventh on a Aubrie Businger solo homer.
Mckenzie Staub (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Owls after pitching 3 1/3 innings of one-hit softball, striking out three.
Hannah McNerney (2-2) went the full seven innings for C of I, allowing eight hits and five walks while striking out one.
William Jessup and the Yotes met in the nightcap, with both starting pitchers delivering outstanding performances.
Katelyn Wilfert (1-2) took the circle for C of I against the Warriors, going the full six innings and allowing just three hits and a run while striking out eight batters.
Unfortunately for Wilfert, a Mehana Johns double down the line in left field to score Seli Aholelei in the first inning would prove to be the difference in a 1-0 game.
Terra Goetz (3-3) finished with a complete game shutout for the Warriors, yielding just two hits and a walk while striking out three. She induced 10 flyouts and eight groundouts.
The Yotes will take on William Jessup and Oregon Tech once again on Saturday at 10 a.m. and noon PT.
