LINCOLN, Calif. – William Jessup and Oregon Tech escaped with a pair of one-run victories over The College of Idaho on Saturday at the Foskett Regional Park.
In the first game, the Warriors (5-7) picked up a come-from-behind 6-5 victory, with the Owls (5-0) capitalizing on a four-run third inning to take the second contest of the day by a 4-3 final.
The Yotes (4-6) starting quick against William Jessup, immediately plating four runs in the top of the first inning.
Haley Loffer led off the game with a single to right-center before
Micha Fortune reached base on a hit by pitch. A wild pitch from WJU starter Katie Blankenheim allowed Loffer to score the first run.
Trystin Crofts followed with a bunt base hit, with Fortune coming around on a
Kaily Christensen RBI groundout.
Katelyn Wilfert and
Hannah McNerney brought home runs on a fielder's choice and a single up the middle to conclude the scoring.
In the bottom of the second, the Warriors answered right back with a three-run inning, with the home team adding another in the third to even things up at 4-4.
C of I retook the lead in the sixth on a
Kylie Smith sacrifice fly to score
Lysette Villegas to make it 5-4.
With one on and one out in the seventh, William Jessup capitalized on an error to bring in two unearned runs, with a Shay Trent RBI single to left-center later in the frame sending Maddy Melo home for the winning run.
Blankenheim (2-4) received credit for the win for the Warriors, working a complete game and scattering 10 hits and five runs, four of which were earned. She struck out two and walked one.
Lexi Navarrete (0-1) picked up a hard-luck loss out of the bullpen for the Yotes despite pitching 4 1/3 innings and not allowing an earned run. She allowed three hits and walked one.
Wilfert, Crofts and Loffer each had two hits in the opener.
C of I had another quick start in the second game, with Smith knocking a two-run double to right-center in the top of the third.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of that third frame, Oregon Tech utilized a big inning to take a 4-2 advantage that they would not relinquish.
The Yotes did inch closer on a
Mallory Copeland RBI fielder's choice on the infield to plate Smith in the sixth, but OIT starter Sarah Abramson (4-0) would strike out the final four batters of the game after that point to seal a win for the Owls.
Abramson finished with 13 strikeouts in a complete game effort in the circle, allowing just two hits and three runs, two of which were earned.
Wilfert (1-3) pitched for C of I and allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out five in her six innings.
