Yotes Earn 3-3 Draw at Division I Foe Idaho State

POCATELLO, Idaho – A pair of Maddie Smith goals sparked The College of Idaho to a 3-3 draw at Division I foe Idaho State on Sunday afternoon inside Holt Arena.

Smith tallied each of her goals in the second half to erase what was a 2-1 advantage for the Bengals. The freshman from Lake City High in Coeur d'Alene fired a rocket into the upper right corner of the net in the 65th minute and scored again in the 81st minute from just outside the goal box on the left side.

The Yotes (0-1-1) started the offensive attack in the 19th minute when Mackenzie Malach connected from directly in front of the net off of assists from Smith and Madison Glascock.

Idaho State answered with back-to-back goals, including a Megan Vawdrey tally in the 39th minute to even things up at 1-1 heading into the locker room. Meagan Tamashiro then broke the tie in the 58th minute to give the Bengals the lead for the first time on the day at 2-1.

Following Smith's goal in the 65th minute, ISU responded with a 20-yard strike off the foot of Jordyn Roth to retake the lead at 3-2.

Smith's second goal of the contest in the 81st minute evened the score up at 3-3, which would remain intact over the remaining course of regulation and two overtime periods.

The Yotes finished with 13 shots, including six on goal. ISU totaled 16 shots and nine on goal.

Sunday was the first draw against a Division I opponent in program history for C of I and stands as only the second time that the Yotes have finished with a 3-3 draw, with a match against Eastern Oregon in 2000 marking the other.

C of I returns to action next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Northwest. Fans can watch the action live on the Yotes Digital Network.
