Yotes Fall 2-1 in Snowy Season Opener to NNU

CALDWELL, Idaho – Sierra Sanchez broke a 1-1 stalemate in the 92nd minute to give Northwest Nazarene a 2-1 win in extra time over The College of Idaho on Friday night.

Playing under the lights at Simplot Stadium for the first time, the Yotes (0-1) and Nighthawks competed despite a winter storm that left the turf covered with a dusting of snow throughout the contest.

Madison Glascock put C of I on the board first in the 24th minute with a goal off of an assist from Mackenzie Malach.

The lead would remain intact until Carolyn Moravec found the back of the net in the 55th minute thanks to an assist from Magda Wronski.

Sanchez connected on the game-winner in the second minute of extra time and was assisted by McKenzie Buell.

NNU brought forth a strong offensive attack to earn the win, tallying 16 shots total and six on goal.

In addition to the Glascock goal, Chloe Teets had an opportunity for the Yotes with a shot on goal that was saved by Nighthawks keeper Ariel Kotte in the 88th minute.

C of I utilized two goalkeepers on Friday, with Kylee Atkins finishing with two saves over the course of a scoreless first half and Shae Waters also contributing two saves as she worked the second half and the overtime period.

The match on Friday was originally scheduled to be played in Nampa, however the Nighthawks and Yotes relocated the affair to Simplot Stadium earlier in the afternoon today after snow continued to fall.

After the snowy season opener, C of I is back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Pocatello against Idaho State.
