NNU Tops Yotes 76-61 in Exhibition Contest

CALDWELL, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene used a big second quarter to pick up a 76-61 win over College of Idaho on Tuesday night in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

Playing the game as an exhibition, the Yotes (7-4) quickly jumped out to a 22-13 lead with just under a minute remaining in the first quarter when Allie Cannon drained a 3-pointer to force an NNU (7-3) timeout.

A 9-0 run after trailing 8-6 four minutes early in the game allowed the Yotes to build that early edge.

The difference on the night however would be a stretch of 24 unanswered points by the Nighthawks from the end of the first quarter until the 4:42 mark of the second quarter.

Trailing by 22 at the start of the fourth quarter, C of I outscored the visitors 21-15 over the final 10 minutes of the game, highlighted by an 11-2 run to cut the lead to 14 at one point.

NNU was led by the 17 points and 16 rebounds of Teagan Thurman in the win, with Nyalam Thabach also adding a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Taryn Riley and Sienna Riggle were the high-scorers for the Yotes with 11 points each. Lexi Mitchell contributed 10 points and eight rebounds, while Mattie Creager grabbed eight boards off the bench.

Following the temporary break from the Cascade Conference slate, C of I returns to league play on Friday at home for a noon matinee against Walla Walla.
