SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A spirited second half rally by the College of Idaho could not muster the equalizing goal, as Corban University earned a 1-0 victory over the Yotes in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at the Les Schwab Soccer Park.
The Warriors (11-6) used a 28th-minute goal to move on to the semifinals of the tournament, while C of I took seven of the final nine shots on the afternoon.
Corban had the run of the pitch in the first 30 minutes, getting the eventual game-winning goal from Mark Ramdeen – who made a nice run off the right side of the field and slotted home a shot inside the near post.
The Coyotes (9-6-1), who defeated the Warriors, 2-1, in September, put the pressure on the Oregon side in the second half. A
Jeremy Guimbretiere drive in the 68th minute was snared by Corban keeper Justin Keegan, while blasts from distance from
Liam Kelly and
Ben Garrick just missed in the 75th. C of I had their final push in the 88th minute, but a
Lucas Thorne try missed wide left.
Both teams finished the match with nine shots, with Corban holding a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. The physical match featured 33 fouls and six cautions.
The match capped the career of C of I seniors
Zac Dean,
Andrew Lauritzen,
Andy Sanchez,
Lucas Thorne,
Thomas Bartlett and
Jack O'Leary.
