POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State topped College of Idaho 91-53 on Friday night in an exhibition contest inside Reed Gym.
BOX SCORE
The Bengals, coming off a Big Sky regular season and tournament championship last season, started strong by jumping out to a 17-0 lead to begin the game.
A resilient Yotes team started to fight back from that point on though, starting with
Taryn Riley converting a 3-point play and then making a layup off a turnover on the ensuing possession.
Late in the second quarter, C of I would then go on an 8-2 run which was highlighted by a
Jada Reed 3-point play and a
Kenadee French triple.
In the fourth quarter, the Yotes once again ran off a run, capping a 7-2 stretch with a
Mattie Creager jumper which forced the Bengals to call a timeout with the score 78-50.
Similar to the start of the game, ISU would finish strong to pick up the exhibition victory.
Lexi Mitchell had 10 points with four rebounds, an assist and a steal for C of I. A trio of players tallied six points for the Yotes, including
Allie Cannon, Creager and Reed. Freshman
Averee Porter had a pair of assists off the bench.
A major bright spot for C of I against the Division I Bengals was the third quarter which saw the Yotes match ISU point-for-point in what went on to be just a 16-15 edge in the quarter for the home team.
C of I also forced the Bengals into 11 turnovers while committing just 11 of their own. Riley had five assists and no turnovers.
The Yotes return to non-conference action next Thursday at 7 p.m. PT at La Verne to start a three-game road trip to California.
