ANAHEIM, Calif. – College of Idaho led by as many as 60 on the way to an 88-33 win over Bethesda on Saturday afternoon to cap off a perfect three-game weekend trip to California.
The Yotes (5-0) wasted little time jumping out to a sizeable lead against the Flames (0-9), going ahead 13-2 just over five minutes into the contest.
A swarming defensive effort by C of I forced 23 Bethesda turnovers and held the home team to just a 9-for-41 (22 percent) clip from the floor.
The Yotes held the Flames without a made basket for a stretch of over 10 minutes from the end of the first quarter to right before halftime, with a 16-0 run to make the score 38-7 with 3:54 before the break highlighting the series of events.
A 14-0 run followed that stretch from the start of the third quarter until the 5:06 mark of the period, making the lead 63-12. Bethesda was held without a made shot in the second half until 1:18 in the third quarter when McKenna Benson scored in the paint.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Yotes could not miss early, going on to finish 32-for-70 (46 percent) overall and 11-for-23 (48 percent) from deep.
For the second straight game and the third time this season,
Sienna Riggle racked up a double-double, posting 13 points and hauling down 10 rebounds.
Riley Frith led the scoring for the Yotes off the bench, totaling 15 points and eight rebounds while hitting two 3-pointers and going 5-for-11 from the field.
Every player that entered the game scored for C of I, with
Jada Reed setting her teammates up for success with eight assists from her point guard spot. Fellow point guard
Taryn Riley had five assists of her own while not turning the ball over.
Riley and
Averee Porter led the efforts on the defensive side of the floor with three steals each.
The Yotes assisted on 23 of 32 made baskets while also dominating the boards with 50 rebounds to 27 for the Flames.
Freshman
Paige Pentzer had six rebounds in six minutes off the bench as a young group was able to see extended playing time late in the game with the large lead in place for C of I.
With a 5-0 record after five straight games on the road to start the new campaign, C of I will finally host an opponent next Friday at 5 p.m. as Montana Western comes to Caldwell.
