Wegner Stuns Raiders with 90th Minute Game-Winner

CALDWELL, Idaho – Larissa Wegner headed in a 90th minute game-winner to stun Southern Oregon as College of Idaho won 2-1 on Friday night at Simplot Stadium.

Wegner, a freshman from Meridian, scored her third goal of the season at the most opportune time. Her goal came less than two minutes after the Raiders (7-4-1, 5-2 CCC) had evened the score at 1-1 when Malaika Quigley found the net off a counter-attack on a cross from right to left from Baylee Touey.

The opportunity for Wegner and the Yotes (10-3, 7-1 CCC) was created by Sydney Clements, who took the ball 50-yards down the field in just eight seconds. Having worked her way to the edge of the in-play boundary on the right side of the goal, Clements would then put just enough elevation on her pass in front of the net to Wegner, who headed it in to give C of I the win.

Prior to the Wegner goal, Megan Wilkinson broke a scoreless tie in the 54th minute on a goal off a corner from Payton Mongelli.

By topping the Raiders, C of I reached double-digits with their 10th win of the season, joining the 2002, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2018 teams as the only squads in program history win 10 or more games.

Shae Waters made three saves as part of a scoreless first half in goal for the Yotes.

C of I outshot SOU 21-9 on Friday, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Yotes also earned four corners to none for the Raiders.

With the 2-0 Oregon Tech win over Eastern Oregon tonight, the Yotes moved into sole possession of first place in the Cascade Conference. C of I will play OIT, currently in a three-way tie with EOU and Corban for second, Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Simplot Stadium in another pivotal conference clash.
