Yotes Set Record For Scholar Teams, All Above 3.0 GPA

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – It was a banner 2019-20 season for The College of Idaho on the field, diamond, track, pool and court, but it was an even more impressive season in the classroom. Each of the Coyote NAIA teams were honored as NAIA Scholar Teams, announced by the national office as part of their Awards Day.

To earn the distinction, a team must maintain a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average among their eligible student-athletes. It is the second time in program history that every C of I team earned the Scholar Team award.

All 18 NAIA programs the Coyotes sponsor earned the award – with the number reaching 20, a new school record –  as both the men's and women's indoor and outdoor track teams were honored.

C of I led the Cascade Conference in Scholar Teams and was one of 20 NAIA schools nationally to have 20-or-more Scholar Teams. In addition, C of I was the only school on the West Coast to record 20-or-more Scholar Teams.

Eight different Coyote squads finished among the Top-10 in cumulative grade point average nationally among their specific sport – with women's swimming placing second (3.738), both men's soccer (3.472) and men's lacrosse (3.245) placing fourth, women's cross country placing fifth (3.450) and football sixth (3.167).  Both the men's basketball (3.366) and women's basketball (3.728) had the top GPA among CCC schools, as did the men's soccer team.
