Cascade Conference Shifts Fall Sports Schedules to Spring

CALDWELL, Idaho - The Cascade Collegiate Conference Council of Presidents announced today that the 2020 fall sports season will be moved to the Spring of 2021.

The move by the CCC will shift the schedules for the College of Idaho men's and women's soccer, golf and cross country teams, along with the volleyball program, to the spring. The look of that schedule will be determined by the CCC at a later date.

In addition, the three football playing CCC schools - C of I, Eastern Oregon and Southern Oregon, will move their schedules to the Spring.

"It is at this time, we have made the difficult decision to transition all of our fall sports to the spring season," said C of I athletic director Reagan Rossi. "While we are still working through decisions with the Frontier Conference presidents and the NAIA, we felt it was important for our decision to be unified for all of our fall sports and to communicate as such in a timely manner. We will work with our CCC Commissioner to build our spring schedules and will await more direction from the Frontier Conference and the NAIA before determining a football schedule. We value our partnership with the Frontier Conference and are hopeful their presidents and members understand our decision."

"From the onset of COVID-19, we have consistently stated that our first priority is the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff," Rossi said. "The medical community is now consistently telling us that the two most effective methods to combat COVID-19 are wearing masks and practicing physical distancing. Unfortunately, neither of these are possible in our sports. Many of the schools in our conference reside in communities that are still in the equivalent of what Idaho calls Stage 1. This means, at this time, those schools would not be able to have in-person classes - let alone field athletic teams - so we would have no teams to compete against."

Instead of competitions during the fall season, preparations have been made for Coyote teams to practice – similar to what they typically do during a normal spring season.

"We are committed to a robust fall practice season for all and to build competitive schedules for the spring," Rossi stated. "We have been working with our athletic training staff and coaches as to how we can have safe practices and continue to build on the great things we consistently do within our athletic department."
