DALLAS, Texas –College of Idaho senior
Austin Van Horne was honored today as a
NAIA Baseball Academic All-District 4 selection, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The 4-year starter, from Caldwell, was a mainstay in the Coyote line-up throughout his career, ranking among the Top-20 all-time in defensive assists, at bats, games played and games started. A health and human performance major, Van Horne was a 3-time Cascade Conference All-Academic Team selection and a 2019 NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
Van Horne was among 10 players selected by a panel of sports information directors within District 4, which represents NAIA student-athletes in 11 states (Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Oklahoma, Texas) as the top scholar-athletes at their respective positions. To be eligible for the award, an athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade point average at the College and be either a starter or key contributor to the team.
Typically, only statistics for the current season factor into the nomination process, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the inability to complete a full season, the statistical component for the award included all career numbers.
Van Horne is now on the ballot for the prestigious NAIA Baseball Academic All-America Team, announced next month.
