CORVALLIS, Ore. – College of Idaho infielder
Kylie Smith was honored as Red Lion-Cascade Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Smith, a junior from Coeur d'Alene, barreled the ball up early and often against Oregon Tech pitching last Friday. The C of I second baseman concluded the tripleheader with six hits and nine RBI, including a clutch three-RBI double to give the Yotes a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning of the third game. Smith finished the day 6-for-12 at the plate, raising what was already an impressive batting average 30 points to what is now a .396 clip.
No C of I player had recorded nine runs batted in over the course of one day since
Molly Mills brought home 10 on Feb. 10, 2012 in a sweep of Simpson, Holy Names and William Jessup.
Following the series win over No. 8 OIT, the Yotes are now 10-6 overall and 4-2 in the CCC. The team returns home to play Northwest this Friday and Saturday in a pair of doubleheaders.
