LA GRANDE, Ore. – A career-high 17 points from freshman
Lexi Mitchell was not enough to lift The College of Idaho to a win in a 78-68 loss on Wednesday at Eastern Oregon.
The Mountaineers (17-7, 11-3 CCC) took a 59-49 lead into the fourth quarter and never let the Yotes (10-15, 8-8 CCC) get any closer than eight points in the final 10 minutes to win their eighth straight game. EOU's largest lead was 17 points.
Mitchell was effective in 23 minutes off the bench, tallying her 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. The Middleton graduate also added six rebounds and two steals.
Senior
Mackenzie Royce-Radford finished with 17 points to go along with five assists and two rebounds.
Kaylee Krusemark,
Allie Cannon and
Kiersten Rasmussen combined for 25 points off the bench for C of I.
Eastern Oregon won the rebounding battle 35-31 and shot an efficient 28-of-52 (54 percent) from the field and 7-of-15 (47 percent) on 3-pointers.
The Yotes shot 24-of-60 (40 percent) overall, but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 3-of-15 (20 percent) on their tries from outside.
Four players posted double-digit scoring outputs for the Mountaineers, led by the 17 points and four rebounds from Jane Nelson.
C of I does not return to game action until Feb. 14 at home against Evergreen.
