SALEM, Ore. – A dominating performance by the College of Idaho netted the Yotes their first win of 2020, sweeping all six singles points in an 8-1 victory over Willamette University at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club.
Played under NCAA Division III rules, the Yotes (1-5) won two of the three doubles points – including a dominating 8-0 victory at No. 3 by
Marissa Shirley and
Sydney Ewing over Alyssa Oberg and Paisley Lieske and a hard-fought 8-5 win at No. 2 by
Lauren Kreutzer and
Leiana Almaraz over Sylvia Marr and Siena Ginsberg.
Both Kreutzer and
Alex Sorte battled through tough matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles – Kreutzer dispatching the Bearcats (0-3) Sarah Dean 6-3, 6-4, with Sorte winning a first-set tiebreak en route to a 7-6, 6-4 win over Robin Pashek.
The remaining Coyote players cruised to wins – Almaraz stopping Marr at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0;
Natalie Little defeating Ginsberg at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3; Shirley making quick work of Oberg at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1; with Ewing dominating Lieske at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0.
C of I closes out the trip on Sunday, traveling to George Fox.
