SALEM, Ore. –
Sophia Jackson connected on five 3-point baskets, scoring 17 points on the night, but a fourth quarter College of Idaho rally came up just short, as Corban University topped the Yotes, 59-56, inside C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
With the loss, the Coyotes (12-17, 10-10 CCC) finished the regular-season in a tie for sixth place in the Cascade Conference standings and will be the No. 7-seed in next week's CCC Championships, presented by U.S. Bank. C of I will travel to rival Eastern Oregon on Tuesday at 7 p.m. (PT) for a quarterfinal match-up.
Both teams had big runs in the middle quarters, with a Rayna Pilgeram jumper midway through the second quarter capping a 7-0 run by the Warriors (17-11, 13-7) – giving the hosts their largest lead of the night at 27-20. C of I countered with jumpers from
Allie Cannon and
Emily Harwood, a triple from
Kenadee French and a
Mackenzie Royce-Radford lay-up – with the 9-point run giving the Yotes a 29-27 lead at the half.
C of I extended the margin to 34-29 on a Jackson 3-pointer early in the third quarter, only to see the Warriors close the frame on a 10-2 run to take a 43-38 lead. Jackson answered with back-to-back triples and
Mackenzie Collins converted a driving lay-up to give the visitors a 46-43 lead.
Unfortunately, Jordan Woodvine took over – scoring 10 of her game-high 23 points in the final quarter – including six straight points that gave the Warriors the lead for good. The Yotes pulled within two points on three occasions, but could not get closer.
Jackson finished the night 5-of-8 from 3-point range, with Royce-Radford scoring 10 points and Cannon adding five points and five rebounds. C of I forced 19 Corban turnovers, but the Warriors held a 44-32 rebound margin.
