DILLON, Mont. – A hot shooting performance from Montana Western was too much to overcome for The College of Idaho on Sunday in a 72-52 loss to end the weekend road trip.
The Bulldogs (2-0) went 28-of-53 (53 percent) from the field and 6-of-17 (35 percent) from downtown. Natali Denning led the offensive contributions, posting 23 points and three rebounds. Head coach Lindsay Woolley benefited from 46 points from his bench, 42 points in the paint and 34 points off of 23 C of I turnovers.
Two big Western runs created separation on the scoreboard, including one in each half.
The Yotes (0-3) trailed just 15-11 with 9:32 in the second quarter following a
Kiersten Rasmussen 3-point play off of an assist from
Allie Cannon, but the Bulldogs would utilize a 15-2 run over the next 4:31 of game action to extend the lead to 17 points.
Western took a 39-22 lead into the locker room, with C of I putting together a 7-2 run to start the second half to cut the lead down to 12.
That would be as close as the score would get the rest of the way though, with the Bulldogs rattling off a 19-1 run to end the third quarter and start the fourth. A
Kaylee Krusemark 3-pointer with 7:18 left stopped the bleeding, but Western was in control with a 64-35 lead.
C of I played well the rest of the way, outscoring Western 20-15 in the final 10 minutes.
Lexi Mitchell had 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss, hitting all four of her shots from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Kaylee Krusemark had nine points and hit a couple of triples in her first appearance of the season and
Chevelle Shepherd had eight points and three rebounds.
The Yotes shot 16-of-49 (33 percent) from the field and 4-of-19 (21 percent) from beyond the arc.
C of I begins the home portion of the schedule next weekend, with home games slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday against William Jessup. Fans can follow all the action on the Yotes Digital Network with
