PORTLAND, Ore. – Seniors
Mackenzie Royce-Radford,
Emily Harwood and
Hannah Maupin combined for 49 points in an 81-71 win for The College of Idaho over Multnomah on Friday night.
Royce-Radford paced the scoring with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and a 4-of-6 effort on 3-pointers. Harwood added 17 points with six rebounds and Maupin contributed 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Trailing 16-14 in the first quarter, Royce-Radford hit a triple to give the Yotes the lead with 2:23 on the clock. The Yotes (10-13, 8-6 CCC) would hold the lead the rest of the way, building the advantage to as large as 16 points.
The Lions (4-16, 1-12 CCC) put up a valiant effort in the second half, cutting the lead to 50-47 thanks to a 15-2 run towards the start of the third quarter.
C of I responded with a 12-4 run of their own to end the quarter, capped off with a steal and basket by
Kaylee Krusemark to finish off the period on a high note.
A 10-of-12 effort from the line by the Yotes in the fourth quarter would be too much to overcome for Multnomah, which hung tough throughout the final 10 minutes.
One of the primary bright spots for C of I in the win was the 10-of-21 (48 percent) performance on 3-pointers as a team in the first half.
For the game, the Yotes shot 28-of-68 (41 percent) from the floor and 11-of-31 (36 percent) from downtown. Multnomah was 25-of-55 (46 percent) and 4-of-12 (33 percent) on triples.
With the 81 points scored on Friday, C of I improves to 5-0 in games when the team scores 70 or more.
Freshman
Allie Cannon snagged three steals to go along with eight points off the bench in the win.
Alaygza Portis had 23 points and Erykah Campbell finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Lions in the loss.
An important conference battle is next on the schedule for the Yotes, who take on Warner Pacific on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. PT.
