Rasmussen Scores Career-High 16 in 54-50 Win

CALDWELL, Idaho – Behind a career-high 16 points from Kiersten Rasmussen, The College of Idaho earned a 54-50 win over Walla Walla on Sunday afternoon to sweep the weekend series.
 
Rasmussen, a junior from Soda Springs, shot an efficient 5-of-9 from the floor and was 6-of-8 at the free throw line. She also blocked a pair of shots and grabbed seven rebounds.
 
With the score tied at 23 at the half, the Yotes (8-12, 6-5 CCC) rattled off nine consecutive points to start the third quarter, with Rasmussen hitting a pair of jumpers during the 9-0 run.
 
C of I held a 37-33 edge heading into the fourth quarter and built the lead to as large as nine points at 54-45, before a 5-0 run by the Wolves (2-17, 0-10 CCC) to end the game.
 
Sparked by the efforts of Rasmussen, the bench combined to score 47 of the 54 points for the Yotes.
 
Hannah Maupin posted nine points, seven rebounds and three steals, with the freshmen duo of Kenadee French and Allie Cannon also playing key roles. French hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with nine points and two rebounds, while Cannon had eight points, including a perfect 6-of-6 performance from the line.
 
The Yotes dominated the glass in the win, outrebounding Walla Walla 47-32, with six players finishing with four or more rebounds.
 
Leading scorer Carolina Montes lived up to the billing in the loss for the Wolves, scoring a team-high 22 points. Jaliyah Casem had 14 points, three steals and three assists.
 
C of I shot 15-of-50 (30 percent) from the floor and 3-of-12 (25 percent) from downtown. Walla Walla went 16-of-55 (29 percent) from the field and 6-of-21 (29 percent) on 3-pointers. The Yotes knocked down 21-of-28 (75 percent) of their free throw opportunities.  
 
After a trio of games this week, C of I remains home next weekend for games on Friday and Saturday against Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech.
