Yotes Battle Back in Second Half to Draw The Master's

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Emma Powley erased a one-goal deficit for the College of Idaho with an unassisted goal in the 67th minute to lead the Yotes (1-0-2) to a 1-1 draw with The Master's on Friday.

With each non-conference contest, C of I continues to show strides in the right direction, something which continued in this one.

"After halftime, it was as if the two teams switched jerseys," said head coach Brian Smith. "We were on the offensive and pinged the ball around, while both Brynna Herridge and Kaya Evans were outstanding in the back."

The Mustangs (3-2-2) tallied the first goal of the contest in the 38th minute when Elizabeth Radmilovic found Emma Hopkins on a 50-50 ball for her first goal of the season.

"Credit to The Master's, they came out a bit different than we anticipated in the first half and we struggled to adjust," Smith said. "We had a defensive blunder to allow a goal and deserved to be down 1-0 at the break."

A team effort allowed for Powley to find the net for her first goal of the season and the second team goal for C of I.

"We strung together three or four passes to set up Emma's goal," Smith said. "She beat her defender and drove a 25-yard bomb into the net."

Shae Waters manned the net for 65 minutes in this one, hauling in two saves and not allowing a goal. Kylee Atkins had a save of her own and allowed the one goal.

The Master's finished with 13 shots and the Yotes had nine on the night. Powley had four of the shots, including two on goal.

With another road match set for Sunday at No. 11 ranked Vanguard, there are plenty of bright spots to walk away with.

"Our young group grew into the game," Smith said. "For us to battle back from a halftime deficit shows how far we have come."
