ASHLAND, Ore. - Fifth-ranked Southern Oregon rallied from a two sets to one deficit to outlast the College of Idaho in a five-set marathon among Top-25 teams inside Lithia Motors Pavilion.
The Raiders (16-2, 6-1 CCC) used a big run in the decisive fifth set for a 26-24, 20-25, 16-25, 25-18, 15-9 win.
Both
Ashley Pagan and
Jordyn Boswell each had 14 kills in the loss for the No. 20 ranked Coyotes (9-5, 4-3),
Kaydre Thompson had 11 kills and nine blocks, with
Abigail Guinn finishing with a season-high 50 assists. Pagan added 14 digs and a career-high six blocks.
C of I had a chance to win Set 1, using an 8-0 run to take a 23-19 lead on a Thompson kill, but the host Raiders battled back - scoring seven of the final eight points to steal the frame. The Yotes dominated Set 2 and Set 3 - getting two Pagan kills in a 7-2 run to end the second set, with the senior adding three kills in a 9-1 surge to take an 18-8 lead in the third set.
SOU responded in Set 4 - forcing 10 C of I hitting errors to send the match to the final game - where Maddie Pernich had four kills in a 9-2 run to erase a 7-6 Coyote lead and send the hosts to the win.
Taylor Ristvedt had a match-high 20 kills and Pernich added 12 kills for SOU.
C of I returns to action on Saturday, meeting Oregon Tech at 5 p.m. (PDT)
