SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A trio of goals in each half guided the College of Idaho to a 6-0 win over Northwest Christian University on Saturday afternoon.
It didn't take long for the Yotes (2-2-2, 1-1-0 CCC) to get on the board, with
Payton Anderson igniting the offense in the ninth minute with her first goal of the season off of a
Madison Glascock assist.
Shortly thereafter in the 17th minute, Glascock returned the favor and found the back of the net for the second day in a row.
Kaya Evans was credited with the assist on the Glascock goal to earn her first of the year.
Not content with the 2-0 lead, freshman
Elise Payne rocketed an unassisted goal past NCU (1-6-0, 0-2-0 CCC) goalkeeper Makenna Hadaller in the 38th minute. The goal was Payne's second of the season and gave C of I a 3-0 lead that would remain intact through the end of the half.
Perhaps most impressive in the first half for the Yotes was a 9-0 advantage in shots over the Beacons, as keeper
Kylee Atkins benefited from impressive defensive efforts by the back line.
C of I didn't waste any time continuing the positive momentum on the attacking end in the second half thanks to
Lexie Hibler, who received a pass from Cam Coyle and finished off the connection with her first goal of the season to make it a 4-0 lead.
Emma Powley carried on the scoring for the afternoon in the 80th minute with a penalty kick goal for her second of the 2019 campaign and Payne scored her second of the match in the 84th minute to make it 6-0, which would end as the final score.
The six goals eclipsed the season total of four entering the match for the Yotes, who come away from the two-match Oregon trip with a split. It was the most goals in a CCC match for C of I since 2003 when the squad defeated Cascade College 8-1.
NCU was not able to tally a shot in the match until the 55th minute when Yazmin Gonzalez rolled one in front of
Shae Waters, who made the save.
That shot by Gonzalez would be all the Beacons could muster on Saturday, as the Yotes outshot the home team 22-1 for the day, including a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal.
After nearly four weeks away from Simplot Stadium, the Yotes will finally host a match on Sept. 27 against rival Eastern Oregon. Providence and Carroll come to Caldwell the following weekend to round out the homestand.
