LA GRANDE, Ore. – College of Idaho players swept the latest NAIA West Baseball Grouping weekly awards, announced today by the league office.
Richard Walker was honored as NAIA West Pitcher of the Week, while
Matthew Clay was named NAIA West Player of the Week.
Walker, a junior from Cave Creek, Ariz., was dominant in his start Saturday vs. Oregon Tech – earning his fourth win of the season. The righty tossed a complete game 2-hitter, retiring 23 of 25 men at one stretch, striking out a season-high nine. It was his team-leading second complete game and now leads the league in innings pitched (67.0).
Clay, a junior from Port Moody, B.C., recorded four multi-hit games in the series, going a combined 9-for-18 as C of I claimed their second-straight road series. The centerfielder had two doubles and his second home run of the season over the weekend, adding four RBI – upping his batting average 39 percentage points.
C of I has the weekend off in preparation for a 4-game road series April 12-14 at Lewis-Clark State.
