Yotes Win Twice, Complete 4-Game Sweep at Northwest

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Haley Loffer and Trystin Crofts combined for all three runs and four hits in Game 1 and added four more runs and five hits in the nightcap, as the College of Idaho completed a 4-game sweep of Northwest University at the Bellevue CC softball field.

The Yotes (26-6, 12-3 CCC) ran their win streak to eight with 3-2 and 7-2 victories – improving their school-record start to the 2019 season while pulling into a second-place tie with Oregon Tech in the league standings.

The duo did all the damage in Game 1 – tying the score at 1-1 in the third, as Loffer doubled with two outs and Crofts plated her with a run-scoring single. After NU (8-20, 4-11) regained the lead on a Sammi Caron solo homer, C of I answered in the sixth – as Loffer walked, stole second and scored on a Crofts triple. Marissa Maddox brought home Crofts with a sacrifice fly to plate the winning run.

Colette Robert was dominant, allowing one earned run on six hits, striking out eight, to earn her 13th win of the year.

In Game 2, the Coyotes pounded out 12 hits to benefit Nichole Giesy, who recorded her first career complete game, allowing just two runs on five hits.

C of I never trailed, as a Delaney Atkins 2-run double in the first gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead. NU got a run back in their first, but the Yotes added to the margin in each of the next three innings – Kylie Smith plating a second inning run with a ground out, Atkins driving in a run in the third with a single, with Maddox capping the scoring with a fourth inning 3-run homer, her eighth of the year.

Loffer was 3-for-4, Atkins was 3-for-3 with three RBI, with Crofts going 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

The Yotes, who play 12 of their final 16 games at home, return to Symms Field on Friday to open a 4-game series with Eastern Oregon.
