Yotes Drop 4-3 Decision to Chaminade to Open Hawaii Trip

HONOLULU, Hawaii – An extremely tight match-up that featured four singles matches extended to super-breakers saw host Chaminade University outlast College of Idaho, 4-3, at Ala Moana Beach Park.

The SilverSwords (3-5) rallied to win the doubles point and erased a 2-1 deficit in singles play with three consecutive wins aided by tiebreaks.

Alex Sorte and Natalie Little had big days for the Yotes (0-7), combining for a convincing 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Catrina Liner and Tomomi Kohno. Each logged singles wins – Sorte outlasting Liner at No. 1 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8), with Little grabbing a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Elyssa Shirai.

C of I showed fight throughout – as Leiana Almaraz, Marissa Shirley and Melissa O'Berto all forced superbreaks by rallying to win the second set of their respective matches – but the CU players were able to win the run to 10 to claim the team win.

Sydney Ewing closed out the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Angelica Almilla at No. 6 singles.

The Yotes continue their trip tomorrow, meeting Division III Mills College.
