SALEM, Ore. – Five errors committed by the College of Idaho in the opener and 15-hits allowed in the nightcap helped No. 14-ranked Corban sweep the opening two games of a weekend series at Warrior Field.
The Warriors (16-4, 8-0 CCC) extended their winning streak to 14 in a row with the 5-1 and 7-3 victories, taking over sole possession of first-place in the Cascade Conference standings.
Sarah Probasco outdueled Coyotes (17-5, 5-3) ace
Colette Robert in Game 1 – working around four hits to earn her eighth win of 2019. Robert was outstanding, allowing just five hits and striking out nine – but four of the five runs she surrendered were unearned.
Corban took a 3-0 lead in the third, capitalizing on three C of I errors, with the Warriors extending the lead to 5-0 in the fifth thanks to an error and a wild pitch.
The Yotes scored their lone run in the sixth on a
Delaney Atkins RBI double – but stranded seven runners in the contest, five in scoring position.
Kylie Smith went 2-for-2 with a stolen base for C of I
The hosts never trailed in Game 2 – as a Jessie Isham RBI single in the first keyed a two-run inning. C of I got a run back in the third – as
Alyssa Goff scored on a double-steal with
Haley Loffer – but Corban added a run in the bottom of the inning, while adding getting an RBI double from Isham in the fourth to push the lead to 5-1.
Robert had an RBI single in the sixth and Loffer added a run-scoring single in the seventh, but the Yotes could not get closer.
Goff went 3-for-3 and both Atkins and Loffer had two-hit games in the loss, while Isham went 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the victors.
The two teams close out the series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
