SALEM, Ore. –
Marissa Maddox tied three College of Idaho single-game school records, hitting a pair of 3-run home runs in the opener, as the Yotes split a doubleheader at No. 14-ranked Corban University.
C of I (18-6, 6-3 CCC) ended the Warriors 14-game win streak with a 9-2 victory in the final game of the conference series, while Corban hit three homers in a 5-2 win in the non-conference match-up.
Maddox recorded the tenth multi-home run game in program history, joined Dani Villyard as the only players with more than one multi-home run game, became just the fifth player to record four runs scored in a game and logged the fourth six-RBI game by a Coyote.
The Yotes struck quickly in Game 1, as following singles by
Kylie Smith and
Haley Loffer, Maddox blasted a pitch over the center field wall for the 3-0 lead. The Warriors (17-5, 8-1) cut the margin to 3-2 on a Mahina Chong RBI single in the bottom of the inning, but C of I starter
Colette Robert kept the hosts at bay the rest of the way, scattering eight hits and striking out four to earn the win.
C of I added an unearned run in the fourth on a
Hannah McNerney RBI single, before Maddox broke the game open in the fifth, crushing a long 3-run homer. Maddox, Smith, Loffer and
Lacie Miller all had two hits in the victory.
Corban claimed the series win with a victory in the nightcap, as Jessie Isham slugged two home runs and Chong added a solo blast. The Yotes plated their runs on a Maddox RBI single and another on a Warriors error.
The Yotes return home next weekend, hosting British Columbia in a 4-game series.
