Yotes Drop Series Finale to Saint Martin's, 11-5

CALDWELL, Idaho – Micah McNicoll went 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBI, leading Saint Martin's to an 11-5 victory over College of Idaho in the series finale at Wolfe Field.

After the game was delayed 54 minutes at the outset due to a morning snow squall, the Saints (4-5) scored runs in five of the first six innings to claim the series victory.

The bullpen trio of Garrison Ritter, Robbie Shineman and Ryan Dorney limited the Yotes (6-10) to just three hits in the final seven innings, striking out six.

SMU scored four runs in the opening inning – including RBI singles from McNicoll, Aaron Renaud, Cody Chavis and Colton Peha to grab the lead. C of I got a run back in their first on a Jake Bowman RBI single and after McNicoll slugged a two-run homer in the Saints next at bat, scored three times in their second – including an Alec Hopkins two-run single.

C of I got within 6-5 in the third when Austin Van Horne scored on a wild pitch – but as the SMU bullpen found their rhythm, the Saints bats did the rest. Renaud lined a two-out, two-run single in the fourth to make it 8-5; McNicoll drove in a run in the fifth on a two-out infield single and added a pair in the sixth.

SMU had a season-high 17 hits – with Renaud going 3-for-4 with three RBI and Chavis, Isaac Hegamin and Grayson Dulatre all logging two hits.

Bowman and Payton Lewis each had two hits for the Coyotes – who used six different pitchers on the day.

C of I opens up NAIA West play next weekend, hosting Oregon Tech in a 4-game weekend series.
