NEW ORLEANS, La. - College of Idaho junior
Alex Martin was honors as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NAIA Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced today by the USTFCCCA information office.
Martin earned Cascade Conference All-Academic Team and NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors following a banner 2018 season where he earned All-CCC honors after a third-place finish at the CCC Championships and All-America honors after a fifth-place finish at the NAIA Championships.
He was one of nine C of I student-athletes to earn USTFCCCA Scholar-Athlete honors - maintaining at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and competing at the NAIA National Championships. Also earning Scholar-Athlete honors were
Cole Campbell,
Josh Frey and
Marcos Cervantes for the C of I men, with Kathryn Craig, Larissa Mauer, Erin Moyer, Tamika Russell and Kaitlyn Schut earning honors for the C of I women.
A total of 250 student-athletes were honored by the USTFCCCA.
