Coyotes Drop Defensive Battle at Utah Valley, 59-42

OREM, Utah – Playing their second NCAA Division I exhibition game in 48 hours, the College of Idaho held Utah Valley to just 2-for-21 from 3-point range, but the Wolverines handcuffed the Coyote offensive attack, earning a 59-42 victory inside Lockhart Arena.

UVU held the Yotes without a made field goal over a seven minute stretch late in the first half, erasing a 15-10 C of I lead – taking a 26-18 lead to the break. The Wolverines would put the game away early in the second half, as Trey Woodbury scored seven of his game-high 18 points in a 12-2 run that helped the Western Athletic Conference team extend the lead to 44-24 with 12 minutes to play.

C of I hung tough throughout the first half – as Jalen Galloway scored all five of his points in a 10-3 run that gave the visitors the 15-10 lead with just under eight minutes left in the period. However, the Yotes would miss their next 10 shots from the floor and commit four turnovers, as UVU grabbed the lead.

The Coyotes held the Wolverines to just 37-percent shooting for the night – but were outscored 15-4 at the free throw line and UVU held a 48-38 edge on the glass.

Isaiah White had 14 points and 13 rebounds, with Brandon Morley scoring 14 points in the win.

Nate Bruneel led C of I with seven points, with Jake Bruner scoring six and a quartet of players – Galloway, Ricardo Time, Talon Pinckney and Charles Elzie III all scoring five.

The Yotes will open their home schedule next weekend, hosting the annual Domino's Classic – meeting Portland Bible on Friday at 7 p.m.
