BIG FINAL WEEK: Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, seven of the eight berths to the Cascade Conference tournament have been clinched, as Northwest, Oregon Tech, Eastern Oregon, Rocky Mountain, Southern Oregon, Corban and Carroll have all secured spots. The Yotes sit in eighth place in the standings currently with 14 points, ahead of Providence (12), Evergreen (9) and Warner Pacific (9). C of I has control of its own destiny this weekend and can make the playoffs with one more win. For seeding purposes, C of I could end up anywhere from fifth to eighth depending on how the weekend shapes out throughout the rest of the CCC.
Â
TYING THE RECORD: With the 1-1 final at SOU earlier this month, C of I now has four draws on the season, which is tied for the most in a single season in program history with the 1995 (3-2-4) and 2014 (7-6-4) teams.
Â
ABOUT MULTNOMAH: The Lions have lost 11 in a row entering the match on Friday and are looking for their first Cascade Conference win in program history. This season the squad has been outscored by opponents 51-3, with Persia Anderson, Prisila Jaime and Justyne Sanchez each scoring one goal. Trisha Priest (3.75 GAA) is the primary goalkeeper and has 108 saves.
ABOUT WARNER PACIFIC: The Knights are still mathematically alive for a spot in the conference tournament entering a tough final weekend, but need to win both matches and receive plenty of help from the teams in front of them. Warner Pacific has been outscored 34-8 by opponents this year. Ashley Giesbers (17 shots, 2 goals), Kaitlin Hirasa (14 shots, 1 goal, 2 assists) and Joie Lopez (13 shots, 1 goal) are the primary attackers for WPU. Alyssa Guthrie (2.32 GAA, 75 saves) has played every minute in the net this season
EVERGREEN MATCH RECAP: The second-highest scoring output of the season lifted The College of Idaho to a 5-0 shutout win over Evergreen on Friday afternoon at Simplot Stadium. Needing a win to boost their positioning in the Cascade Conference standings, the Yotes took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on a
Madison Glascock flick into the net off of a
Chloe Teets corner and never looked back. The offensive onslaught continued in the 27th minute when
Alexa Rierson tallied an unassisted goal on the back-end of a double shot. Not content with the two-goal lead heading into half, C of I utilized the first career score from
Cheyanne Rede off a combination assist from
Payton Mongelli and
Brooklyn Ruwe to stretch the lead to 3-0 at the break. Rede would add an unassisted strike after blowing by the Geoducks defense and finishing in the 86th minute.
Emma Powley had an insurance goal of her own on a penalty kick in the 68th minute to round out the scoring for the Yotes. In the net, the combination of
Kylee Atkins and
Shae Waters benefited from a quality performance from the C of I defense to shut Evergreen out. The Yotes finished the contest with a 19-3 advantage in shots. The five goals were the most for C of I since a 6-0 defeat of Northwest Christian on Sept. 21 and equaled the total number of goals for the team over the last six combined games.
NORTHWEST MATCH RECAP: Brooklyn Ruwe's first career goal in the 100th minute capped off a 2-1 win for The College of Idaho over conference front-runner Northwest on Saturday. After receiving a long through ball from
Sydney Clements, Ruwe raced past the defense and won a 1-v-1 battle, firing a missile from point-blank range past goalkeeper Kat Sanchez to send the Yotes into the final weekend of the regular season on a high note. Previously unbeaten in Cascade Conference play, the Eagles had their hands full early and often against a C of I team that is playing its best soccer of the season at the right time of the year. For the second day in a row,
Chloe Teets placed a corner kick in the perfect spot, setting
Brynna Herridge up directly in front of the net in the 24th minute for an opportunity that the redshirt freshman would capitalize on to give the Yotes a 1-0 lead. Despite a 24-8 deficit in shots for the match, C of I was in control of the one goal lead for the next 49 minutes. Northwest tallied their lone goal of the match in the 73rd minute on a high rocket from 20-yards out off the foot of Callie Wright, who placed the ball just over the outstretched hands of keeper
Kylee Atkins and into the upper portion of the net to even the score at 1-1. With the score knotted up, the Yotes faced a trio of dangerous looks from the Eagles in the final eight minutes, including a shot attempt by Wright in the 85th minute which was blocked in the net by
Madison Glascock to save what would have been the tiebreaking goal. Atkins made a save of her own on a Rylee Rassier attempt in the 88th minute to force the match into extra time. Atkins played a pivotal role throughout for C of I, slowing down a team that had outscored its previous six opponents by a combined total of 20-1. The junior keeper finished with nine saves on the day.
