2019 Women's Soccer Notebook - Week 8

COMING UP: vs. Evergreen, Friday, 2:30 p.m.; vs. Northwest, Saturday, 2:30 p.m.

COMPLETE MEDIA GAME NOTES

LAST WEEK: at Rocky Mountain (L 2-0)

MULTIMEDIA: Live Stats and Live Video of both matches this weekend at Simplot Stadium will be available through the C of I Stretch Internet Portal.

TYING THE RECORD: With the 1-1 final at SOU earlier this month, C of I now has four draws on the season, which is tied for the most in a single season in program history with the 1995 (3-2-4) and 2014 (7-6-4) teams.

IMPORTANT WEEKEND FOR STANDINGS: When the Yotes host Evergreen on Friday it will mark a battle of two teams within a point of each other in the conference standings, with the Geoducks one point ahead currently. The top eight teams in the Cascade Conference standings make the conference tournament, with C of I sitting in 11th heading into the week- just three points behind Southern Oregon - which resides in eighth in the standings. With the final four matches of the regular season slated for Simplot Stadium, C of I has one of the more favorable remaining schedules.

ABOUT EVERGREEN: The Geoducks have been outscored 20-17 by opponents this season. Madison Early (5 goals, 1 assist) and Maddie Lockwood (4 goals, 2 assists) pace the offensive attack for Evergreen, with Alexis Backus (1.64 GAA, 43 saves) the primary goalkeeper. Lockwood and Early have combined to take 47 of the 97 shots on goal this year.

ABOUT NORTHWEST: Two of the more explosive playmakers in the CCC reside on the roster for Northwest, with Rylee Rassier (15 goals, 1 assist) and Callie Wright (13 goals, 7 assists) accounting for 76 percent of the total scoring for the Eagles. Olivia Morris (4 goals, 9 assists) is another key component for head coach Bryan Chud. Northwest has outshot the opposition 232-135 this season and has eight shutouts on the season, including five in a row. The Eagles have outscored their last five opponents 18-0. Kat Sanchez (0.61 GAA, 42 saves) is the primary keeper.

AGAINST EVERGREEN: C of I has went 4-0-1 against the Geoducks over the last five years, with the last Evergreen win against the Yotes coming on Oct. 19, 2013 by a 2-1 final in Olympia.

AGAINST NORTHWEST: The Eagles  have not lost to C of I since Oct. 8, 2010 when the Yotes won 4-1 on the road. Since that time, Northwest has posted a 7-0-2 record in the series.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN MATCH RECAP: A pair of first half goals guided Rocky Mountain to a 2-0 win over The College of Idaho on Sunday afternoon in Cascade Conference action. The Yotes allowed two goals in the first 45 minutes for the first time this season in the loss against the Battlin' Bears. Each goal for Rocky came late in the first half, with Tiara Duford scoring first in the 36th minute from the left side of the box and Lauryn Gamache adding an exclamation point with a goal of her own late in the 45th minute. C of I was able to get behind the Rocky defense on multiple occasions early in the match thanks in large part to the speed of Kaitlyn Ramon and Madison Glascock, however the Yotes were not able capitalize on those opportunities. Neither team found the net in the final 45 minutes, as Maia Wetzel put the finishing touches on her seventh shutout of the season. The Battlin' Bears posted a 16-12 advantage in shots and were led on the attack by Alexis Robbins, who took five shots, including three on frame. Brynna Herridge and Mackenzie Malach each posted three shots to pace the Yotes. Sunday marked the final time that C of I will head to the road during the regular season, with the Yotes finishing with a 1-4-2 mark away from Simplot Stadium.

OVERTIME STALEMATES: In 80 minutes of extra time this season neither the Yotes or their opponents have scored a goal, resulting in four draws. Opponents have taken 20 shots in overtime compared to 14 for C of I.

STREAK SNAPPER: The 2-0 loss at Rocky Mountain marked the first time all season that the Yotes have lost a match by more than a goal. It was the fourth time in 2019 that C of I has allowed two goals, with the squad losing each of those times.

MIXING UP THE ROTATIONS: Head coach Brian Smith has utilized a variety of players in different roles this season, with 21 different players having started at least once. Seven freshmen or sophomore players have started at least seven times.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: The final home game of the season has been rescheduled from Nov. 2 to Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. Seniors Emma Powley, Makenna Aguilar and Mackenzie Malach will be honored prior to that contest against Warner Pacific.

BACK-LOADED HOME SCHEDULE: C of I had nine home matches on the schedule entering the season. Through five of those contests the Yotes have a record of 2-1-2, with close to 50 percent of the home slate still to come over the next two weeks.

CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT INFORMATION: The 2019 Cascade Conference tournament will get underway on Nov. 12 from the Les Schwab Sports Park in Springfield, Ore.
