 Â
MULTIMEDIA: Live Stats and Live Video of both matches this weekend at Simplot Stadium will be available through the C of I
Stretch Internet Portal.
Â
RARE HOME LOSS: With the 2-1 loss to EOU last week, the Yotes fell at home in Caldwell for just the second time in the last 11 matches. Over that time period, C of I boasts a record of 6-2-3 overall at Simplot Stadium.
Â
FAMILIAR FOES: Brian Smith (College of Idaho), Brian Clarke (Providence) and David Thorvilson (Carroll) are three of the longest tenured coaches in the Cascade Conference, with 33 years combined between them at their current stops and 255 wins to show for their efforts. Clarke is 2-6-0 against the Yotes, while Thorvilson has led the Fighting Saints to a 6-4-2 record against C of I.
Â
ABOUT PROVIDENCE: The Argos bring an aggressive offensive style into the match on Friday, with the squad putting up nine shots on goal per contest and 2.38 goals per game. Both of those totals are good for third and fourth in the Cascade Conference, respectively. Providence also allows 2.38 goals per game, which is 10th in the CCC. Eme McLaughlin is a dynamic striker for her team, leading the conference with 12 goals this season and hitting two game-winners. McLaughlin's goal total is four higher than the next closest individual in the conference (Callie Wright, Northwest). Dakota Neumann has played every minute in goal so far this year for the Argos and opponents are averaging 2.35 goals against her.
ABOUT CARROLL: David Thorvilson's squad is coming off a 10-6-3 mark in 2018 and is looking to get on track after being outscored 9-5 and going 1-3 to start conference play. The Fighting Saints average 1.89 goals per game and yield 1.56 on average. Makayla Welch leads the roster with seven goals on the season and Brenna Rohnkohl has added three goals. In the net, Sydney Green has started all nine matches and brought in 32 saves, while allowing 13 goals .
EOU MATCH RECAP: Erika Skindlov scored a tiebreaking goal in the 77th minute to lift No. 9 Eastern Oregon to a 2-1 win over the College of Idaho last Friday afternoon. While the end result was not what C of I was hoping for after a gritty first half, there were still multiple bright spots. Celebrating her 20th birthday, sophomore
Laura Staropoli took a far end line centering pass from
Madison Glascock in the 48th minute and used her right foot to place it into the left corner of the net for her third career goal. For the first time this season, the Yotes utilized just one goalkeeper, with
Kylee Atkins finishing with five saves and two goals allowed. Atkins delivered an impressive fingertip save in the 28th minute on a high rocket towards the top of the frame off the foot of Mackinley Gregus for one of the defensive highlights for C of I. Â
MAGIC NUMBER: When the Yotes hold the opposition to one goal or less this season, the team has posted a record of 2-0-2. In matches where two or more goals have been scored by their opponent, C of I has went 0-3-0. Atkins has posted 18 saves and Waters has 15 on the year.
MINDING THE NET: C of I is tied with Southern Oregon for fourth in the CCC in goals against aveage, allowing just one goal per match. Eastern Oregon (0.57), Oregon Tech (0.78) and Northwest (0.89) are the only programs with lower averages.
Shae Waters has a 0.58 goals against average and
Kylee Atkins has a 1.25 goals against average.
CONSISTENT COYOTES: Since 2015, C of I has allowed 20 or fewer goals in each season. The Yotes are on pace to have another impressive year on the defensive side of things, allowing just seven goals through seven matches. Last year the team allowed 19 goals throughout the entire season of 18 matches. The 2009 team set the standard for keeping the opposition out of the net, yielding just 11 goals the entire year.
GO FIGURE: Opponents have outshot the Yotes 54-29 in second half action this season, yet C of I has outscored those opponents 6-4 during that time period.
BALANCED ATTACK: Seven different players have scored the 11 goals for C of I in 2019, with freshman
Elise Payne leading the way with three.
Madison Glascock and
Emma Powley each have two goals, while
Payton Anderson,
Sydney Clements,
Lexie Hibler and
Laura Staropoli all have one. Glascock has two assists to hold the lead in that category.
STAPLES OF THE SQUAD: Only two players have seen action in every match over the course of the last three seasons for C of I, as
Kaya Evans and
Emma Powley have become familiar faces for fans of Yotes soccer during the course of those 43 matches.
ROAD TRIP UPCOMING: The Yotes will head to the road yet again next week, as for the second time this season the team will embark on a long journey away from Simplot Stadium, not returning home for match action for 20 days until Oct. 25 when Evergreen comes to town. C of I has had success away from the home pitch in recent years, with four straight seasons of above .500 records away from the friendly confines.
MOST WINS IN A SEASON: The Yotes finished 2018 with their ninth above-.500 record in the 30-year history of the program. C of I has won nine or more matches five previous times – winning 10 matches in both 2002 and 2010, winning 12 matches in 2008 and a school-record 14 matches in both 2009 and 2015.
