CALDWELL, Idaho - College of Idaho set a 25-point rally-scoring school record for aces - recording their most aces overall since 2002 - as the Coyotes swept past Walla Walla inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Yotes (14-7, 9-5 CCC) finished the day with 20 aces in the 25-11, 25-11, 25-16 victory - the second-highest total in program history - with
Kayla Riley finishing the day with seven aces and
Margie Beeler adding five more.
Riley recorded five of her aces in a 9-0 run to open the match - including consecutive aces on four-straight serves. Back-to-back kills from
Ashley Pagan helped the lead grow to 17-5, as C of I rolled to the game win.
The Wolves (1-19, 0-13) took their only lead of the match after a Sarah Halverson kill to start Set 2, but following an
Austyn Mauzy kill, Riley added consecutive aces to start a 6-point push, as the Yotes ran away with the frame.
Set 3 was tighter, with WWU pulling within 8-7, but Beeler took over, ripping four aces in a 7-point surge that put the match away.
Mauzy led C of I with 10 kills, with both
Jordyn Boswell and
Mackenzie Keating recording seven. Beeler had 19 assists and 10 digs, with
Drew Dobney finishing with 13 digs.
Caldora Blackburn led WWU with six kills and eight digs.
The Yotes hit the road next week for matches at Evergreen and Northwest.
