CALDWELL, Idaho – A furious rally inside the final three minutes came up just short, as the College of Idaho dropped a tight 61-57 decision to Corban University in Cascade Conference women's basketball action inside J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
After a 34-11 run by the Warriors (14-7, 8-3 CCC) erased a C of I 33-22 lead in the third quarter, the Yotes clawed back into the game in the waning moments – but
Madison Holly missed a game-tying 3-point attempt with one second remaining, as Corban survived for the road win.
The Coyotes (9-10, 7-6) used a 15-3 run spanning a nine-minute stretch spanning the first two quarters – as
Emily Harwood had back-to-back baskets and
Kaylee Krusemark scored five points in the run, giving the hosts a 24-15 lead. Consecutive jumpers from
Kiersten Rasmussen pushed the lead to 33-22 early in the third quarter.
Corban clamped down defensively – limiting C of I to just two made field goals over the final eight minutes of the quarter – pulling even at 37-37 on a Jordan Woodvine free throw to close the frame. The Warriors took command with a 12-2 run early in the fourth quarter, getting 3's from Treasure Farmer and Emily Yost, taking their largest lead of the night at 56-44 with three minutes on the clock.
C of I quickly answered –
Alyssa Case scored on consecutive put-back baskets,
Emily Harwood converted a 3-point play and Case made two free throws following a steal – part of a 10-0 run that pulled the Yotes within 56-54. Farmer came through for the Warriors, canning a triple in the left corner as the shot clock expired – giving the visitors a five-point lead.
The Warriors, however, couldn't put C of I away – missing 5-of-6 free throws inside the final 40 seconds – with the Yotes cutting the margin to 59-57 after a
Mackenzie Royce 3-point play. Following a Woodvine free throw with 12 seconds left, the hosts had a chance to tie, but Holly's attempt from the top of the key missed off the left side of the rim.
Yost led the Warriors with 16 points and 16 rebounds (10 on the offensive end), with both Woodvine and Farmer scoring 13. The Oregon school used a 44-35 edge on the glass – including a 17-7 edge in offensive rebounds.
Jocelyn Cook-Cox led the Yotes with 15 points and eight rebounds – with Case and Harwood each scoring seven. Royce had six points and seven assists in the loss. C of I made 54-percent of their first half field goals, but connected on just 10-of-32 attempts in the second half.
C of I returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to No. 14 ranked Eastern Oregon for a 5:30 p.m. (PT) tip.
