CALDWELL, Idaho – Dominic Abdel-Ahad took advantage of a College of Idaho miscue on a throw in and scored from 30-yards out for the lone goal of the match, as Northwest Nazarene topped the Yotes, 1-0, at Simplot Stadium.
BOX SCORE
In the 36th minute of the exhibition match, Abdel-Ahad won the ball near midfield on a throw in – and following a Coyote defender tripping, made a long run down the right sideline, rocketing a ball over the head of C of I keeper
Parker Billings for the goal.
The Nighthawks nearly took the lead in the 18th minute, as a Jake Levine 18-yard blast ricocheted off the crossbar, with C of I clearing a rebound opportunity off the goal line. The Yotes had two quality chances in the next five minutes – but a
Brenden Kenley shot from inside the box missed just left after a quality run, and
Jacob Hurter missed a sitter inside the 6-yard-box just high.
C of I finished with a 15-13 edge in total shots – with the two teams combining for just six shots on goal. NNU keeper Jacob Hillyer made two saves – both in the second half – to complete the clean sheet.
The Yotes will have the next two weekends off, preparing for their season opener on Sept. 8 vs. the University of Jamestown.
