Lady Yotes Split Doubleheader on Senior Day

CALDWELL, Idaho – Celebrating the final doubleheader in the career of four College of Idaho seniors, the Lady Yotes took advantage of four errors, four wild pitches and four hit by pitches in Game 2 to record a split with the University of Providence at Symms Field.

The visiting Argos (7-32, 6-21 CCC) got two home runs from Kylie Gonzales in the opener to earn a 6-2 win in the final conference game of the year, while C of I grabbed an 8-5 decision in the non-league contest. The split gave C of I a 10-10 home record in 2018 - their 12th-straight season with a .500 or better mark at Symms Field.

C of I (22-23, 11-16) took a first inning 2-0 lead in Game 1, as Trystin Crofts launched a long two-run homer to left.  However, UP righty Kristina George held the Yotes to just three hits the rest of the way to earn the victory.

Trailing 2-1, the Argos loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth, with Gonzales lining a ball over the centerfield wall for a grand slam to give UP the lead for good. She added a solo shot in the seventh for an insurance run.

Gonzales, Karlie Southworth and Ashton Bell each had two hits for the Argos.

UP took a 1-0 lead in their opening at bat in Game 2, plating an unearned run on a C of I error. The Yotes answered in the bottom of the inning – as Courtney Ellis led off with a bunt single and the Montana nine followed by committing four errors and a pair of wild pitches – leading to three Coyote runs.

An inning later, Ellis tripled home Delaney Atkins and scored on a wild pitch to extend the margin to 5-2, while RBI singles from Crofts and Martha Tooley in the fifth put the game away.

Sadee Sorensen earned the win in the circle, allowing four hits in four-plus innings of work, while Colette Robert fanned six in relief to earn the save. Tooley went 3-for-4 and Ellis went 2-for-2 in the win for C of I.

Between games, Ellis, Sorensen, Kristin Paulazzo and Ali Longoria were honored as the four senior student-athletes on the 2018 C of I squad.
