CALDWELL, Idaho –
Colette Robert struck out a combined 14 batters in a pair of wins in the circle, as the College of Idaho opened their season-ending homestand with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Providence at Symms Field.
The Lady Yotes (21-22, 11-15 CCC) picked up 6-1 and 8-1 victories on the day, but saw their postseason hopes dashed when British Columbia swept three games against Northwest Christian.
Robert was dominant, retiring 14 of the first 15 batters she faced in the opener – fanning eight in the complete game win. She opened the scoring in the second inning with a long solo homer to right, with a
Trystin Crofts making it 2-0 an inning later with a blast to left.
In the fourth, C of I strung together five singles – plating runs on a untimely throw from the outfield on a
Taylor Eakle single; adding a run on a wild pitch and on a
Kylie Smith sacrifice fly; along with a Crofts RBI single.
Both Crofts and
Delaney Atkins went 2-for-3 for the Yotes.
The Argos (7-31, 5-21) struck first in Game 2, as Kylie Gonzales punched a first inning RBI single through the right side.
The lead was short-lived, as C of I sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning – capitalizing on four walks and two hit by pitches in the frame.
Jordan Maddox had a two-run single to right,
Marissa Maddox roped an RBI double and Eakle hammered a two-run single off the centerfield wall in the 8-run inning.
Robert allowed just two hits over her final four innings of work, while
Loryn Fonger retired six of the seven batters she faced in relief. Eakle and
Jordan Maddox each had two hits in the victory for the Coyotes, while Hanna Tarum went 2-for-3 for UP.
The two teams close out the season tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
