CALDWELL, Idaho – Following a day and a half delay due to snow, British Columbia pounded out 17 hits and scored the final 10 runs of the afternoon, topping the College of Idaho, 15-4, at wintry Wolfe Field.
The final game of the series was postponed due to darkness and will be reschedule as part of C of I's trip to UBC at the end of March. Two inches of snow yesterday turned today's single game into a doubleheader, while morning snow showers forced the 11 a.m. first pitch moved to nearly 2 p.m.
The Yotes (8-11, 1-2 NAIA West) struck first in the second inning, as
Kole Lane scored on a
Ryan Murkle single through a drawn-in infield. UBC answered with a 5-run fourth, as an Austen Butler sacrifice fly tied the score, with Anthony Cusati and Zach Prisciak roping back-to-back RBI doubles. Kyle McComb plated a run on an infield single with the final run scoring on a C of I error.
C of I pulled within a run in the bottom of the inning – as
Chase Labbe doubled home a run and
Dylan Mansanarez lined a pinch-hit two-run single – but the Yotes stranded the bases loaded.
UBC (7-8, 2-1) pulled away against the Coyote bullpen – scoring runs in each of the final four innings. Prisciak had a two-run single and McComb lined a two-run double in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 11-4, as the T-Birds recorded a season-high in hits.
Adam McKillican tossed three-plus innings of scoreless relief, fanning five, to earn the win. Cusati was 3-for-4, with Prisciak going 2-for-3 with three RBI and McComb going 2-for-4 with four RBI for the T-Birds.
The Yotes lost despite 11 hits – with Lane going 4-for-4 with two runs scored.
C of I continues their home stand next weekend, hosting Oregon Tech in a four-game series.
