Emily Harwood recorded her first double-double in a College of Idaho uniform and
Hannah Maupin scored a career-high 14 points, but a late University of La Verne rally helped the Leopards top the Lady Yotes, 80-76.
C of I (1-3) blitzed the hosts early, as
Mackenzie Collins hit two 3-pointers in a 15-2 run to open the game, a lead that grew to 23-7 late in the quarter. ULV battled back, as Clarissa Perez scored seven points late in the second quarter to pull the hosts within 42-33 at the break.
A Perez lay-up late in the third quarter gave the Leopards (1-1) their first lead of the game at 54-53, with the margin growing to 74-70 with two minutes left.
Madison Holly answered with a trey and
Alyssa Case drained a short jumper to give C of I a 75-74 lead with 1:12 remaining.
On the ensuing possession, Perez canned a short jumper to give the Leos the lead and following a C of I miss, Perez connected on another mid-range shot to put the game away.
Harwood finished 7-of-9 from the floor, scoring 15 points with 10 rebounds, while Maupin made 8-of-12 free throws on the night. Case had 10 points and eight rebounds, with Collins scoring a career-high 10 points. C of I made 35-percent of their field goal attempts in the loss.
Perez led all scorers with 21 points with Bailey Kurahashi scoring 15 off the bench.
C of I closes out their three-game trip to California tomorrow with a 3 p.m. (PT) match-up at UC-Merced.
