ROCKLIN, Calif. – The first of three potential head-to-head battles between Top-5 foes went to Southern Oregon as the Raiders narrowly topped the College of Idaho to win the Warrior Invitational at Johnson Springview Park.
The Coyotes had a banner day, placing all five scoring runners in the Top-15 – but SOU had their top four finishers in front of C of I's No. 2 racer, earning the team win by just seven place-points (47-54). Both team dominated the two other Top-25 teams in the race – as Westmont, ranked No. 14, placed third (100) and No. 8 Eastern Oregon took fourth (117).
Alex Martin paced the C of I, taking fourth overall with a personal-best time of 24:47. The Yotes grabbed places 11 through 14 in the final standings – as
Bryce Odegard (25:12),
Josh Frey (25:16),
Cole Campbell (25:17) and
Marcos Cervantes (25:18) were separated by just six seconds.
C of I will take next weekend off, preparing for the Cascade Conference Championships in Sammamish, Wash., on Nov. 3.
