Second Half Goals Send Lady Yotes Past Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Facing a 1-0 deficit for the fourth-straight game, the College of Idaho was poised to change their fortunes at Lincoln Park Stadium. The Lady Yotes answered the call, scoring three second half goals to log their first win of 2017, a 3-1 decision over Pacific University.

Sabrina Mallett scored the equalizer early in the 52nd minute, heading home a corner kick from Hailey Woods.  The Yotes (1-3) continued to pepper the Pacific goal, recording nine of the 13 shots in the period, earning the eventual game-winning goal with just over eight minutes to play, as Cameron Coyle chipped a 25-yard shot over the head of Boxers (0-2-1) keeper Saya Brown.

Katelyn Benavidez added an insurance marker two minutes later, taking a long through-ball from Hailey Boyd and beating Brown in a 1-on-1 opportunity.

Pacific got the early lead in the opening 10 minutes, as Emily Thompson played a cross over the top of the Coyote defense, finding the foot of Kayla Mizo for the goal.  The Boxers, however, had just three shots on goal the rest of the night against the stingy Coyote defense – with keeper Brittany Houghton recording her 26th career win.

The Yotes held a 13-10 edge in shots – converting their only corner kick of the night into a goal.

The first goal by the Yotes ended a school-record 751 minute scoreless drought – dating back over nine games.

C of I closes out the non-conference portion of the schedule on Sunday with a match at Linfield College.
