Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – A three goal scoring flurry over a 20 minute stretch of the second half lifted the College of Idaho to a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Whitman College at Simplot Stadium.
The victory for the Yotes (1-1) ended a six match losing skid dating back to last season.
The Blues, playing the game as an exhibition, struck first in the 13th minute, as Noah Cavanaugh collected a loose ball just outside the area and ripped a one-timer into the top right shelf for the early lead. WC nearly made it 2-0 a minute later, but a goal was disallowed due to an offsides flag.
C of I had one quality chance in the opening 45 – as
Joey Brant flicked a corner kick just above the cross bar inside the final five minutes of the period.
Things changed quickly in the second half, as off a 58th minute counter-attack, Brant cross a ball atop the 18, with
Carter Perry ripping home the equalizer. Less than 10 minutes later,
Ahmet Huremovic headed home the game-winner off a great cross from
Bekir Cinac.
The Yotes added an insurance goal in the 77th minute, as Perry forced a turnover deep in the WC end, making a move to the middle of the pitch and ripping a strike to the center of the net for the 3-1 lead.
Freshman
Parker Billings made four saves in his C of I debut – earning the win with a clean sheet in the second half.
Whitman held a 12-9 edge in total shots and had five of the eight corner kicks in the match.
The Yotes return to action next weekend with road matches at Simpson and Sierra Nevada.
