Yotes Use Long Ball To Earn Split at Corban

KEIZER, Ore. – First inning home runs by Cole Mansanarez and Dominic Conigliaro helped the College of Idaho win the series finale with Corban University, splitting today's doubleheader at Volcanoes Stadium.

The Warriors (13-23, 7-16) got 10 strikeouts in a complete game effort from Kris Jackson in a 4-1 Game 1 win, but Mansanarez blasted a two-run shot and Conigliaro added a three-run blast as the Yotes topped Corban, 11-1, in a run-rule Game 2 decision.

The opener saw the Coyotes (16-20, 9-10) throw seven different pitchers at the Corban offense, but six C of I walks and three hit by pitches were the key for the Warriors.  The hosts plated two runs in the fourth inning – one on a bases-loaded hit by pitch and another on a bases-loaded free pass, while adding another run in the seventh inning on a walk with the bases juiced.

It was enough for Jackson, who allowed just two runners in scoring position through eight innings. The Yotes threatened in the ninth, getting a Hunter Hanson RBI single to avoid a shutout and had the tying run at the plate – but Jackson used a strikeout to end the contest.

Hanson was the lone player on either team with a multi-hit game, with the Coyote staff limiting Corban to just five hits.

Game 2 was all C of I, as Bobby Wright was hit by a pitch leading off the game and scored when Mansanarez ripped his sixth homer of the year.  Following a pair of Corban errors, Conigliaro lined a three-run homer to left to make it 5-0.

It was more than enough for Anthony Martine, who ended a personal four-game losing streak with five strong innings of work, striking out six.

Conigliaro finished 3-for-3 with four RBI; Mansanarez was 2-for-5 with three RBI; with both Ryan Murkle and Austin Van Horne driving in a pair.

C of I returns home next weekend for a key four-game series with Oregon Tech – including an Easter Sunday doubleheader that will be preceded by an Easter Egg Hunt on the Wolfe Field diamond.
