CALDWELL, Idaho –
Colette Robert picked up a complete game victory and added a save, while
Destiny Turner had four hits in extending her hitting streak to 12, as the College of Idaho swept a doubleheader from British Columbia at Symms Field.
Robert scattered six hits in the Lady Yotes (14-15, 11-6 CCC) 3-1 victory in Game 1, while
Katelyn Geyer delivered a go-ahead two-run double in a 6-run third inning in C of I's 6-4 win in the nightcap – extending their conference win streak to five games.
UBC (4-18, 3-11) had the lead in both games – striking first in the third inning of game one, as Montana Turnovistski singled and scored on a two-out Hillary Strelau single. C of I answered an inning later, getting a two-out Geyer single and a walk to
Martha Tooley – setting up
Trystin Crofts, who punched a single into right to tie the score.
Kristin Paulazzo singled deep in the hole a short to score Tooley for a 2-1 lead.
It was enough for Robert, who stranded T-Bird runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings for her third-straight victory – striking out six batters without a walk. Turner, Geyer and Crofts each went 2-for-3 for C of I, while Turnovitski added two hits for UBC.
In the late game, an RBI ground out by Sydney Brown and a Lindsey Ogilvie RBI single in the third inning gave the Canadian squad a 2-0 lead, only to watch the Yotes bat around in the bottom of the frame. Singles from
Hailey Chambers and Paulazzo started the rally, and following a sacrifice bunt, Chambers scored on a UBC passed ball and Paulazzo scored on an
Angelina Romero RBI single. Turner doubled to right to put runners at second and third, with Geyer blasted a ball off the left field wall to plate a pair for a 4-2 lead.
Delaney Atkins capped the outburst with a long two-run homer over the centerfield wall.
The T-Birds tried to rally against C of I starter
Ashley Pesek, getting an Ogilvie sacrifice fly in the fifth to cut the margin to 6-3 and left two runners on in the sixth. In the seventh, Brown reached on an infield single and Ogilvie doubled just inside the bag at third to bring the tying run to the plate. Enter Robert, who allowed a sacrifice fly by Lexie Brenneis on an outstanding catch in left field by
Courtney Ellis and got Turnovitski to pop up to shortstop to end the game.
Pesek got her fifth win, allowing just two earned runs on eight hits, fanning six. Turner and Atkins each had two hits for the Yotes in the victory, while Brown and Ogilvie had two hits for the T-Birds.
The two teams close out the weekend series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
