KIRKLAND, Wash. –
Colette Robert tossed a one-hit shutout, finishing two outs shy of a perfect game, as the College of Idaho completed a Cascade Conference sweep of Northwest University at Everest Park.
The Lady Yotes (12-15, 9-6 CCC) got an RBI double and solo homer from
Martha Tooley in the 12-0 victory in Game 1. NU salvaged the final game, a non-conference tilt, taking advantage of four C of I errors in a 4-2 win.
Robert was dominant, allowing just one ball out of the infield in retiring the first 13 batters in order. Her bid for a perfect game was broken in the fifth, as Danielle Bonsky tripled, but the lefty came back to get the final two batters to record her second-straight shutout win.
Tooley got the Lady Yotes on the board in the second with a solo homer, while the visitors used a 7-run fourth inning to put the game away. Tooley and
Delaney Atkins each added an RBI doubles and RBI singles from
Kristin Paulazzo,
Angelina Romero and
Hailey Chambers. C of I added four additional runs in the fifth – scoring runs on two bases loaded walks, an error and a
Destiny Turner RBI single.
Tooley, Romero and Paulazzo each had two hits for the Yotes – who took advantage of five Eagles (8-19, 3-12) walks and four errors.
C of I had their chances in Game 2, but could not take advantage of eight NU walks – going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranding 11 runners on base.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Maggie Harshaw RBI single, but C of I tied the game in the fourth when Paulazzo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and took the lead in the fifth on a Tooley RBI ground out.
NU plated three unearned runs in the fifth – including two runs on a C of I throwing error, to regain the lead. Pitcher Rachel Hawley worked out of a second and third, one out jam in the seventh to pick up the win – limiting the Yotes to just two hits.
C of I returns home next weekend for a four-game series against British Columbia.
